Women in Civil Construction


About the Program: 

The "Women in civil construction program" is 10-weeks in duration and is designed to provide a pathway for women into entry-level civil construction jobs by combining essential ticket training and selected accredited units from the Cert III in civil operations. Participants will undertake 6 weeks formal training and 4 weeks work placement on a live civil construction site.

To strengthen this program, additional non-accredited training (in dealing with bullying and harassment, health and well-being and money management) will be delivered, as well as work placements to build on-site confidence and competency.

This program has a strong focus on collaboration involving Master Builders ACT (MBA), Ginninderry SPARK Program, Southern Training Organisation (STO), Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) including; BASE, Woden Contractors, Guideline ACT and Huon Contractors.

Training Program:

Participants will undertake formal training in the following units by MBA GT RTO 88163:

  • 10675NAT - Asbestos Awareness.

  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (white card).

7 core units from RII30815 Certificate III Civil Operations delivered as accredited training by STO RTO 91378.

  • RIIWHS201D - Work safely and follows OHS policies and procedures

  • RIIBET201D - Plan and organise work

  • RIICOM201D - Communicate in the workplace

  • RIICCM201D - Carry out measurements and calculations

  • RIICCM203D - Read and interpret plans and specifications

  • RIICCM205E - Carry out manual excavation

  • RIISAM204D - Operate small plant and equipment 

Participants will be trained in:

  • Introduction to Manual Handling

  • Bullying and harassment

Program Outcomes

Participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed and have the opportunity to apply for full time employment with a civil contractor involved with this program.


The program begins on Monday April 29 and finishes on Friday 5 July 2019.
