CEO Update 25 January 2019

This week 28 new carpenters and plumbers began their apprenticeships at the MBA. This year’s apprentice intake has seen many country kids come to Canberra to begin their trades, including apprentices from Bungendore, Queanbeyan, Tarago, Thirlmere, Yass and Wyalong. It’s excellent to see so many young, enthusiastic apprentices coming from across NSW to complete their apprenticeships here at the MBA.

All MBA apprentices are educated in work safety from day one and throughout their career as an apprentice. It is vital that the safety training they receive in the classroom is reinforced on the work site. On 6 February (from 7:00 to 8:30am) the MBA will be hosting a free Safety Breakfast to reinforce the importance of safety of apprentices on construction sites.

Leading by example, we are also pleased to report that last week the MBA passed our AS/NZS 4801:2018 safety audit.

Finally, I would like to highlight an interesting event the MBA is jointly hosting with the University of Canberra on 6 February (from 4:00 to 7:00pm). Members will join staff from the Building & Construction Management Degree for a tour of the new Building Information Modelling facilities available at UC.
