CEO Update 18 January 2019
Returning to work after Christmas holidays at the MBA means we will be welcoming our next intake of MBA apprentices as they start their career in the building and construction industry.
The quality of applicants attracted to an MBA apprenticeship remains very high, however as Canberra grows and the demand for skilled tradespeople increases, we would like to see the number of applicants also increase. With support from the ACT Government last year we have seen more interest from women seeking a career in construction. We have also commenced a number of quality first year apprentices from regional and country areas in 2019.
If you are interested in a career in construction, or know someone that is, I would encourage you to contact the MBA.
January 2019 has also seen the commencement of amendments to the Work, Health and Safety ACT and the commencement of the ACT Secure Local Jobs Code. If you are a principal contractor or subcontractor undertaking construction work more than $5 million value (in relation to the WHS amendments) or any construction work for the ACT Government, please contact the MBA to learn about the requirements of these new laws.
Finally, the start of the year is a good time to review your business systems and plan for the year ahead. There are many ways the MBA can assist with this. If you would like to access any of the services available to you as MBA members, such as industrial relations advice, help reviewing right of entry protocols, safety advice, technical or contracts support, help to review your insurance or Fidelity Fund cover, or construction industry training, please contact our team.
I wish all of our members a safe, productive and successful 2019.
