Canberra's building industry is on display

Display homes have dominated in the Master Builders (MBA) Building Excellence Awards - with the opening of display villages in Googong and Denman Prospect

Canberra's display villages are breaking new ground in bringing dreams to reality, inspiring new generations of home-owners, and driving quality and innovation in the industry. From demonstrating the functionality of family homes of Googong, to the high-end statement homes of Denman Prospect, these display homes are labours of love which take future homeowners into the realm of what is actually possible.

Last year, Monarch Building won the national award for Display Home of the Year. This shows the MBA is fostering national excellence among its members and making Canberra display homes a competitive force to be reckoned with across Australia.

The 2018 finalists showcase a vast array of design styles, trends in building and technology, and potential choices across external and internal fit-outs depending on living styles, family circumstance and personal choice.

At Googong's "Wisteria" by Better Building Services, DNA Architects & Sugar Designs, you can witness how energy efficiency and family friendly spaces can be combined into a stunning U-shaped home that focuses living into an internal and light-filled atrium.

Meanwhile, the jaw-dropping drama of "Linden by Kolak Living" is hard to forget. The two-storey home commands an elevated position in Denman. Featuring commercial glazing, Carrara marble bathrooms, Wi-Fi integration of lighting and custom-joinery throughout, even the brass inlay featured in the atrium herringbone tiles was hand-cut. The concrete slab and foundation engineering for this home illustrates care and a fastidious approach to future-proofing.

A more traditional style is presented at "Avondale" by McDonald Jones Homes in Denman.

Incorporating a clear delineation between children's and adult living spaces, the two-storey home provides an enormous open-plan living space and parent's retreat downstairs, while containing the children's bedrooms and activity space to the first floor.

The MBA awards are a fixture on the industry's calendar and continue to promote excellence in the industry. It should be noted that every builder with a home in the Denman display village is an MBA member.

The MBA is excited to see how industry will deliver the next stage of energy efficient homes in the new Ginninderry Display Village to open in 2019.
