ROBERT "Dipper" DIPIERDOMENICO
AFL Hall of Fame Inductee
"I was born to play in Grand Finals," says Robert DiPierdomenico, somewhat humbly. And play in Grand Finals he surely did. With the Hawks back in 1975, The "Big Dipper," as he likes to be known, was best afield in the 1978 Grand Final against North Melbourne. The legend had been born.
He will be remembered for his trips to the VFL tribunal just as he will be remembered for winning the 1986 Brownlow Medal with Greg Williams. He played in five day Premiership sides and four night Grand Finals and over a career spanning 240 games, was a Victorian regular. In 2007, Dipper enjoyed one of his proudest moments when he was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.
Dipper has also developed into a national media personality via his work on Channel 7. He was well known for his role as "Boundary Rider" for the network and his role as a panel member of The Sunday Footy Panel with Rex Hunt. Dipper's "Boundary Rider" tradition continued with leading Melbourne radio station 3AW as he entertained listeners each weekend for many seasons. Post Channel 7, Dipper has also enjoyed television appearances including Channel 10's "Before The Game," Fox Footy's Auskick'n Around, Channel 9's Postcards, Channel 9's Mornings with Kerri-Ann and The Today Show.
Dipper is now heavily involved with the AFL and was the National Ambassador for their junior development program, Auskick for the past 10 years. Dipper's role with Auskick included educating Australia's youth and indigenous people about Australian Rules Football and it took him to every corner of our Nation. Dipper is now a National Ambassador for the game and continues to promote the AFL around Australia and internationally.
Troy Thompson is living proof that you can successfully transition from one career path to another if you have the passion and drive.
Born and bred in Canberra, "Thommo's" dream came true when he debuted for the Canberra Raiders in 2001. He spent the next nine years wearing lime green, but before he hung up his playing boots he added the colour purple to his wardrobe, running out with the Melbourne Storm.
Outside of work he has a passion for cooking and spending time with his wife Rachael, sons Raffe and Moss, and the newest addition their baby daughter Valentine.
Troy has a lot of experience in the property industry working with an Investment Construction and Property Advisory company as a Business Development Manager. As a result of these roles he built one of the biggest builder's buyers groups in Melbourne working with over a hundred builders and construction companies. The knowledge gained in these positions has developed an excellent understanding of both the property and building industries.
Since moving back to Canberra and commencing his career in real estate, he is now a director at LJHooker Gungahlin and works as a sales agent and sales manager. He also works with the LJHooker Project Marketing team, working with many developers and builders to see their projects are supported with a successful marketing and selling campaign.
Thommo lives by two beliefs; preparation is the key to success and that anything you do is a reflection of everything you do... so he hopes these two things pull through for him as MC.
