Judging Tips

Insider Tips for the 2019 judging process

  • When completing your submission, be sure to read each question carefully. The questions that you are answering are the judging criteria and are therefore, what the entry will be assessed against. Be sure to focus your responses on the construction process, rather than the design process.

  • Keep all entry information as clear as possible, judges prefer quality over quantity with each submission

  • Judging appointments cannot be altered. Due to the large volume of entries and limited judging time, the time that you are issued cannot be rescheduled. If there is a period that is not suitable for inspection (e.g. no access to a project due to a public holiday) this should be included in the comments section of the entry submission before closing date of Friday 15th March.

  • At the time of your onsite inspection, be sure to have the builder present or a builder's representative with expert knowledge regarding the project. This will help ensure that the judges receive all the relevant information and that the projects merits are accurately represented.

  • Be sure to provide the MBA team with clear instructions as to where to meet your inspection contact for your judging session. For example, with a Civil project such as a major roadway or subdivision, specify the area within your project that you would like to meet the judging team. Previous entrants have specified intersections, car parks or coffee shops to meet with the judging team before showing them through the project.

  • Some Commercial project entries are secure buildings. MBA can provide you with the judge's information so that the check in/visitor pass process can be commenced before the judges arrive onsite. If this is applicable to your entry, contact the MBA team. This also applies to areas where parking is limited. Please specify the best location for our team to park as parking delays can impact the time that judges are able to spend inspecting your entry

  • Entries in  the Sustainable, WHS and Project Exhibiting Technical Difficulty or Innovation  categories, can often be difficult to judge onsite. If you would prefer your entry judged in a one on one presentation session with our judging team, please notify the MBA team and include this request in your submission. We can facilitate a judging session in our boardroom, with access to a presentation screen for supporting pictures, videos and PowerPoint presentations.
