Renovation/Extension - Less than $250,000

Ideal Building Solutions & Allan Spira Architect
Fraser

Generally happy with the style of their Fraser home, this client was left in the dark – literally. Extensive 70’s woodwork and internal bricks resulted in dark and uninspiring living spaces. A small but clever renovation featuring skylights changed everything! White gyprock covered the dark bricks and timber work, a new sunroom and deck were complemented by a large sliding door opening the house to the stunning, well-established garden. The five Velux skylights were a mixture of fixed and solar blinds to shut out harsh summer sun when needed, while others had strip LED lighting all positioned to resemble a glass ceiling. This simple, clever conversion providing a surprising ‘Wow!’ factor.

Architekt Grüne Hauser & TT Architecture
Hughes

To describe this reimagined Hughes property in a single word, is breathtaking! Demolishing the 25-year-old ‘temporary’ garage that obnoxiously dominated the rear garden, began the evolution of a home design that is generally only featured in dreams. A new majestic sculptural carport stands at the front of the home. The beautifully functional kitchen, large glazed windows, sophisticated ensuite and reconfigured master bedroom complement the superior quality, inside and out. The new roof, insulation, red gum floors and windows have significantly improved the environmental credentials. The comprehensively redesigned front elevation using a dramatically different material palette gives a crisp contemporary feel while retaining the bones and scale of the original property.

Pichelmann Custom Building Services
Hawker

Transforming a tired home with a life time of memories into a 21st century vision, required respect, understanding, proficiency and attention to detail. A broken-plan arrangement with Crittall-style glazing created practical light filled spaces and cantilevered floors, varying ceiling heights, contrasting materials and bold finishes added to the extraordinary redesign. The artistic owners influenced Pichelmann’s ground breaking approach to this extraordinary transformation. Parquet flooring and wood panelling gave a respectful nod to the home's past resulting in a seamless blend of old and new. The journey between Pichelmann Custom Building and the owners of this Hawker property developed from a successful working relationship to a valued friendship.

Forrest

It’s not often that industry judges are left speechless. However the attention to detail and quality workmanship of this reinterpreted Forrest home, literally took their breath away.12 months planning every detail, resulted in perfection. The original huge timber beams were removed, reworked and reused, 50 year old stone work was meticulously matched and the living, dining and kitchen areas were impressively reimagined to flow onto a spectacular alfresco outdoor room, with a cantilevered roof resembling a Swiss Chalet. The marble kitchen is incredibly grand yet effortlessly functional. A lift was installed to future proof the home with access from the basement and garage to the main living quarters. This is no ordinary renovation. It’s a masterpiece!
