Competition

Entry is open to financial members of the Master Builders Association of ACT.

Entry deadline: Friday 10 March 2017, 11:59pm.

Please note the entry deadline. If you wish to submit and entry after this date you need to contact Master Builders ACT directly.

Eligible projects must be completed in the period 11 March 2016 - 10 March 2017.

Judging Period: Monday 3 April til Friday 5 May 2017

Awards presentation ceremony: Friday 30 June 2017. Location the National Convention Centre, Canberra. Tickets can be purchased here - Dinner registration form

Joint Entry: A separate fee is payable for each entrant.

When an entry is located beyond a 100km radius from Canberra GPO a surcharge of $175 (inc GST) is applied.

Residential Categories

PROJECT HOMES

This category incorporates builders’ standard design homes. Builders should submit the inclusions list and promotional brochures.

●Less than $300,000

●More than $300,000

A condition of entry in this category is that the entrant provides the addresses of three additional homes constructed, or under construction, using this plan.

 

DISPLAY HOMES (Definition of m2 below)

Builders must include their inclusions list and promotional brochures. Submission must include how the entry was set up as a display home including marketing activities verifying that the home is or was for display  purposes.

●Less than 225m2

●More than 225m2

The definition of m2 for this purpose includes any living space on each floor within the external walls and under the roof line excluding garages, Carports and similar non-habitable structures.

 

CUSTOM BUILT/ CONTRACT HOMES (Definition of m2 below)

Homes built for a client, other than project homes.

●Less than 150m2

●150m2 -250m2

●250m2 -350m2

●More than 350m2

* The definition of m2 for this purpose includes any living space on each floor within the external walls and under the roof line excluding garages, carports and similar non-habitable structures.

 

REMODELLING 

Remodelling projects include extensions and renovations, decks, pergolas and outside pavilions, adaptable or accessible fit outs.

MEDIUM DENSITY

●Townhouses, Villas

● Dual Occupancy, Habitable Suites

Definitions:

Townhouse: is in a row of houses, that is not class 2. Townhouses can be attached.

Villas: Stand alone Class 1, in a cluster development.

Dual Occupancy: Two new dwellings on the same block.

Habitable suites: secondary residence that can be a separate or attached dwelling up to 90m2

 

APARTMENT & UNITS

● Up to 3 Storeys

 ●4 Storeys and above

 

SPECIAL PURPOSE DWELLING / ADAPTABLE DWELLING

This category includes houses incorporating facilities for people with disabilities and adaptable housing. Other projects eligible include government housing projects, student & group accommodation and aged persons units.

A client’s statement is required with this entry.

 

Chief Minister’s Affordable Housing Award

HOUSING AWARD

The 2017 Master Builders Excellence in Building Awards includes an award for projects or designs for Affordable Housing.

This award recognises the endeavours of organisations and individuals in their support of Affordable Housing.

Recipients of this award must demonstrate a strong commitment to their work and the building and construction industry through activities such as:

● Encouraging excellence in affordable dwelling design and construction

●Easing stress for medium and low income earners

●Added incentives to minimise ongoing operational costs

●Affordable house and land products delivering value for money

●Easing entry into home ownership

● Includes Small Lot Housing

Affordable Housing is defined as a house and land package, an apartment or unit as described in the three categories below:

● up to 80m² will be subject to a threshold of $296,000;

●between 81-105m² will be subject to a threshold of $348,000; and

●larger than 105m² will be subject to a threshold of $382,000.

 

Subcontractor Categories

Subcontractor of the year

This award will be determined between all of the subcontractor division winners on an aggregate basis of ratings supplied by the judges.

 

KITCHEN PROJECT

Not including appliances, electrical, plumbing, plastering & painting and anicillary work but it should be noted that the quality of associated trades is assessed.

This category includes Joinery, Painting, Tiling, Plastering and Flooring. Additional individual categories may be formed depending on entry numbers.

Sustainable Construction

Residential Project

This award is open to new homes and to the substantial modification of existing houses. In either case the completed residence must achieve a minimum 6 star energy rating and for other modifications must comply with the ACT Building Regulations.

Civil Project

This award is open to all Civil Construction projects including bridges, land development and roads.

Commercial Project

This award is open to all commercial construction projects including schools, hospitals, and factories. This award also includes projects that may have been certified under the Green Building Council of Australia program.

All submissions should quantify its sustainable benefits with reference to its costs, local manufacturing, simplicity, ease of construction, durability and overall future operating costs of the project.
