2016 Building Awards
Project of the Year: The Vibe Hotel by Construction Control
Hosted by one of Australia’s most loved award-winning actors and presenters, Shane Jacobson kept the audience entertained throughout the night. Guests were treated to a night of fine food and dancing with entertainment by Australian music favourites - The Black Sorrows, and Vika and Linda Bull.
The major awards for the evening, Project of the Year was again won by Construction Control for their work on the Vibe Hotel at the Canberra Airport. This project also received the award for Commercial Buildings $20m - $50m. This is the third Project of the Year win for Construction Control in the past four years. The 2016 House of the Year was awarded to the team from Better Building Services, DNA Architects and Sugar Designs for an amazing home in the new suburb of Googong.

Owner of Walmsley Building Solutions, Chris Walmsley received the Youth Participation and Training award for his dedication to the industry’s young builders. Chris is a former MBA Group Training apprentice and is a fine example of the quality of builders MBA Group Training produce. Today, he’s committed to giving back to his industry by hosting young apprentices at the start of their careers.
The Professional of the Year for 2016 was awarded to Peter Leary from Peak Consulting. With a reputation for reliability and honesty, Peter handles complex and challenging projects on a daily basis. With a deep understanding of local legislative and building code requirements, Peter is held in high regard by his clients and peers.
Southern Innovations were this year’s winner of Supplier of the Year. With a solid reputation for customer service, a dedicated team ensures they deliver on every promise. Fiercely independent and local, Southern Innovations consistently present the Canberra community with the latest trends in bathroom and kitchens from leading manufacturers in Europe and Australia.
Subcontractor of the Year, J&J Interiors were a deserving winner in this category for their work on projects including the Project of the Year. The striking circular atrium is testament to the expertise of J&J Interiors’ experienced team. This space – which can cater for intimate gatherings and large-scale events – draws the eye upwards towards to the circular skylights that let in daylight and create a constellation at night.
